Economic Evaluation & Business Case
Economic evaluation projects estimate the costs, savings, or financial case for a change. The result depends heavily on choices about which costs count, from whose point of view, and over what period, so those choices need to be stated.
Common mistakes for this type
- Not stating whose costs are counted, such as the hospital, the patient, or the payer.
- Counting savings but leaving out costs the change adds, such as staff time and training.
- Presenting a single estimate without showing the assumptions behind it or how the result changes when they change.
